PURPOSE:To reduce waste loss in the outlet of a draft tube without enlarging the outlet area of the draft tube. CONSTITUTION:A draft tube 6 connects the outlet of a water turbine runner 5 to the outlet 7 of a forebay 8. On the water surface 10 of this forebay 8, there is provided a pent-roof shape underwater structure 11 floating in the state of jutting out from the outlet 7, and this underwater structure 11 is supported by a support stay 12. The bottom face of the underwater structure 11 is inclined in such a way as to coincide with an inclined face connecting the upper edge 7a of the outlet 7 to the water surface 10 of the forebay 8 sufficiently away from the outlet 7. Running water flowing out of the outlet 7 into the forebay 8 flows along the bottom face of the underwater structure 11 and gradually reduced in speed, and its speed energy is smoothly converted into pressure energy.
