CONTROLLING WEEDS BY TREATING WITH A HERBICIDE IN COMBINATION WITH A CULTURE MEDIUM IN WHICH MICROORGANISMS HAVE GROWN

A method is provided for controlling the growth of weeds by applying to the weeds a herbicide, or other chemical agent, and a culture medium in which microorganisms such as bacteria or fungi have grown. The herbicidal action of the chemical herbicide when combined with the conditioned medium is greater than the herbicidal action of the herbicide alone. This makes it possible to control a broad range of weed species using lower levels of herbicide than are needed when the herbicide is used alone. The medium may be processed to concentrate it or to partially purify it, but it is not necessary to identify or to purify the specific agents in the medium that act to enhance the actions of the chemical agent.
