The dovetail shaped appendix (5) has at its end plane a length reference surface (6) and at least on one side a rotation reference surface (11). The appendix also has a rotation reference line (5) through stud holes (2,3) formed at opposite ends of the workpiece (1). Through choice of fastening jaws from the number of necessary variants suited to the actual workpiece fixture appendix, the workpiece can be fixed in a machine tool or robot in a fixture, after which machining or control of the workpiece can be carried out. The workpiece positioning in place is fully coordinate with the handling machine, since the machine during the work process has permanent access to the length (6) and rotating references (4,11). Once the workpiece is complete the appendix is removed.
