Flame-ionisation detection, esp. of concn. of hydrocarbons in specimen gas flow - feeding combustion mixture and specimen gas flow with diluting air added into burner with electrode arrangement in flame zone
A method of flame-ionisation detection involves feeding a combustion mixture and specimen gas flow into a burner and using an electrode arrangement in the burner's flame zone to detect the concn. of hydrocarbons. The specimen gas flow is mixed (4) with diluting air before being fed into the burner. The quantity of diluting air is continuously controlled. A partial flow is tapped from the specimen gas flow before the diluting air is added. ADVANTAGE - Linear detection characteristic is achieved even for high concn. and danger of explosion is effectively eliminated.
