The vehicle sensitive clamp for a seat belt has two clamping elements (4 24) between which runs a seat belt (2). At least one of the clamping elements can move in two directions: firstly in the direction (G) of the belt and secondly in a transverse direction which corresponds to the direction of travel (F), such that the clamping arrangement engages the belt as a result of the natural inertia of the clamping elements. ADVANTAGE - Simple clamping method responsive to vehicle behaviour in which clamping elements having a small mass can exert a force large enough to hold the belt securely.
