The suppressor has a torque reference value set by a potentiometer (1) that is summed (2) with a number of parameters to provide an input to an amplifier (3). The amplifier is coupled to an armature current regulator (4,5,6) of the motor (7). The motor output is coupled to a transmission (10) that may have mechanical play causing a dead band (10.1) to exist. The output torque is measured (11) and fed back for comparison with the reference value. Additional electrical elements (13-23) provide outputs to modify the error signal by introducing positive (16) and negative (20) components dependent upon the direction of the backlash, and so avoid deadband effects. USE/ADVANTAGE - For use in vehicle transmission test stations. Compensation for deadband effect avoids limit cycle.
