A tyre is reinforced with circumferential strips, partic. of a number of nylon filaments, between a belt running from one shoulder to the other and the tread, whereby these strips at least partly overlap in shingle fashion and partic. in the form of windings. The overlaps by the inner shoulder are greater than those by the outer shoulder. The example shown has the (pref. rubber) tread (3) and has a carcass running from one bead (4) to the other (5). The belt (7) has two layers, run circumferentially, and extends across the width of the tread (8). Parallel to and between the tread (8) and belt (7) is the nylon reinforcement (9). This consists of a single band of closely positioned nylon filaments, is 8-24mm wide, starts at the inner shoulder (1), and runs spirally round the circumference until it reaches the outer shoulder (12). It thus overlaps (10) along the edges by some 50% at the inner shoulder (11) but the overlap gradually decreases to a mere few filaments at the outer shoudler (12). ADVANTAGE - The design produces a desired cone effect for high speeds and it largely avoids any tendency towards a flat spot effect.
