Ground-gas measuring device has a boring rod (7), a boring-rod tip (6) and, within the rod, a boring probe (8). The rod and its tip are inserted to a given depth in the ground, with part of the rod protruding. In the tip (6) there is a light-transmitter (1) that transmits in a prescribed frequency range. The transmitted light goes through the probe (8), which measures the light absorption, and reaches a gastight measuring chamber (33) at the top of the boring rod (7). The probe (8) and rod (7) are perforated or slotted, so that the ground-gases can penetrate the probe below the surface of the ground, rise to the surface, and flow out above the surface. The chamber (33) has an optical arrangement that diverts the measurement light beam through various filters to a light sensor (23). There is a regulator unit (30) in which the various constituents of the ground-gases and/or their concentration are evaluated. USE/ADVANTAGE - Measurements of these gases are needed at sites such as old dumps for waste materials and rubbish, and common methods entail taking specimens and analysing them in the laboratory; this involves difficulties in transit. The proposed arrangement enables analysis to be done on site, without the need for consumable materials; also, measurements are facilitated.
