The filter input (XS) is connected to an analogue serial-to-parallel converter (ASPC), whose N parallel outputs (XP) are connected to N parallel inputs of a ranking circuit (ASORT). The ranking circuit comprises N stages (PC1 to PC5) connected to each other. All stages, except the last, are connected to a noise generator (PGEN). A ranking of N amplitude samples is effected through the squared initial noise signals (P12,P42) from the noise generator after each new amplitude sample. A middle k+1st stage of the ranking circuit delivers an amplitude sample of a timed serial output signal after each new amplitude sample, which is conveyed to the filter output (YS) via an analogue switch (SAS). ADVANTAGE - Requires practically no control logic, easily tested and during sorting operation no switching operations occur.
