The device has grip elements of a material harder than the profiles. These elements are shaped like a comb, at least round part of the periphery, and they have an inner strip with separate teeth projecting from it. They are pref. made of FRP with carbon and/or silicon carbide fibres. The pref. car tyre tread (2) has the radial blocks (3) and intermediate grooves (4). The tread is made of rubber or similar. To improve the grip in winter condictions the blocks (3) are surrounded by the elements (5) of a harder material than the tread, which are cured in position. The inner ends of the elements (5) are pref. thicker (6) to ensure that they are locked in position; and outer ends are flush with the surface of the blocks. The moulded plastic elements (5) are placed in the tyre mould before the rubber is cured. They are pref. joined together by crossbars (7). The comb type structure of teeth on the elements ensures that the tyre flexes in service. ADVANTAGE - The device improves grip on the road and has a long service life. The tyre flexing or resilience are untrfuvrf. It is simple and cheap.
