Determining air mass taken into each cylinder of vehicle IC engine - using crankshaft markings to define suction phase of cylinders and integrating value of volume flow for each cylinder
The crankshaft markings define the suction phase for each cylinder, between which the airflow into each cylinder is measured and an integrated value stored in the processor. The total airflow into the engine is obtained via a simple summation circuit. The values are continuously updated with changing load in the engine. The airflow values are empirically related to engine torque. The processor memory computes the change in airflow and predicts the airflow for the next firing cycles. This provides a fast response for engine control. USE/ADVANTAGE - For engine management system. Simple determination of airflow into cylinders, improved engine control.
