The braking system is regulated by a control unit (60) responsive to wheel rotational speed sensors (40,42,44,46) and detectors of steering-wheel position (62) and brake pedal depression (64), as well as to the ultrasonic receiver (54) of the signal radiated from the transmitter and reflected from the road surface. The control unit contains a read-only memory (72) for speed calculation, antilock braking and wheel slip control subroutines, and random-access memory (74) for measured data and stages in calculation. It drives the ultrasonic transmitter (52) and the wheel brake pressure adjustment valves (18,20,30,32). ADVANTAGE - Occurrence of abnormality in measured road speed can be detected with higher precision.
