Microwave transmission line phase discriminator using spatial sampling of standing wave - uses regularly spaced detectors selectively inputting signals via delay resistances to summers which produce phase angle sine and cosine outputs to division circuit which calculates ratio.
Microwave transmission line phase discriminator using spatial sampling of standing wave - uses regularly spaced detectors selectively inputting signals via delay resistances to summers which produce phase angle sine and cosine outputs to division circuit which calculates ratio.
The transmission line (1) carries signals of equal frequency travelling in opposite directions, setting up standing waves at high frequency. Regularly spaced detectors (4) sample the signal at different points on the line. Detector outputs are filtered and processed in parallel by electronic circuits (7,8,9,10) which calculate the sine and cosine of the phase angle. The sine and cosine calculations are combined in electronic circuits (11,12) which calculate the phase angle. USE/ADVANTAGE - Phase measurement of high frequency standing waves in transmission lines with reduced impact of systematic errors.
