PURPOSE: To repeat a long-time and high-voltage large capacity intermittent discharge by providing, on a part of an electrode, a hole through which most of high-speed charged particles are passed without colliding with the electrode. ;CONSTITUTION: When a discharge stimulation of about 6000 V is given through a negative electrode 2 and a lead 7 connected to trigger electrodes 6a, 6b, cations of xenon gas are generated in a discharge tube, and the cations receive the force of the electric field formed between positive electrodes 3a, 3b and the negative electrode 2. Since the cations are acceleratively advanced toward the negative electrode 2 and increased in speed, thus, an extremely large quantity of cations of xenon are acceleratively advanced toward the negative electrode 2 and enhanced in speed. When the negative electrode 2 has a ring form, however, the cations of xenon directed to the center part of the negative electrode 2 are passed through a hole without colliding with the negative electrode 2, rushed into the electric field reversed to the advancing direction on the opposite side to the negative electrode 2, in which the cations 2 receive the force of the electric field, and are suddenly decelerated.
