PURPOSE:To provide a rainbow color development processing method which subjects the surface of a work piece to ornamentation processing capable of variously changing the tints of reflection gloss by directions of incident light and viewing angles like rainbow colors. CONSTITUTION:A thin film P to serve as a waveguide for a laser beam is formed on the surface of the work piece W and the surface formed with this thin film P is irradiated with the convergent pulse laser beam L in such a manner that pulses are cast many times to the same position, by which the laser beam La propagating in the thin film P and the laser beam L for irradiation are interfered and the fine ruggedness G corresponding to the intensity distribution of the interference fringes is formed on the surface of the work piece W.
