ION FOCUSSING METHOD AND DEVICE IN VISCOUS FLOW JET EXPANSION REGION OF ELECTRIC SPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE: To increase ions captured in an analyzer by arranging a conductive tube lens operating together with a capillary tube in an analyzing region, and focussing ions in jet flow on the center by applying voltage. ;CONSTITUTION: A conductive tube lens 31 is arranged at the end part of a capillary tube 16 directing ion carrying gas from an ionizing region 14 to a low pressure region 21, through an insulating sleeve. When voltage is applied to between a conductive coating on the tube 16 and the lens 31, an electric field is formed within the tube 16, and ions are focussed on the center of expanding flow, and ion flow is formed in the center of expanded gas jet. Ions are introduced into a mass spectrometer through a skimmer 28 and a lens 29. Ions captured in the mass spectrometer are increased.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
