PURPOSE: To obtain the agents, comprising an extract of Echinodorus Macrophyllus Micaeli, a plant known to be effective against arthritis, gout, depuration, renopathy, rheumatism, etc., in the South American district from old times, in an organic solvent or water as an active ingredient. ;CONSTITUTION: A leaf part of Echinodorus Macrophyllus Micaeli is used in a raw state as it is or dried and ground and then extracted with an organic solvent, water (including hot water) or optionally a mixed solvent of the organic solvent and water and the prepared extract is used as an active ingredient to give an agent having eliminating action on active oxygen, an agent for alleviating hyperlipemia, an agent having antiallergic action and an agent having inhibitory action on aldose reductase. Among the components of the extract, a component having extremely eliminating action on active oxygen is a water-soluble acidic compound. A component having extremely alleviating action on hyperlipemia is an extract with acetone and an extract with hot water. A component having extremely antiallergic action is a component insoluble in 66% methanol among extracts with hot water.
