Novel naphthyridine-, quinoline- and benzoxazine- carboxylic acids as antibacterial agents are described as well as methods for their manufacture, formulation, and use in treating bacterial infections including the description of certain novel intermediates used in the manufacture of the antibacterial agents. The agents have the formula: CHEM and wherein n, n min , n''' and n''' are integers as specified herein, and X, Y and R1 to R6 are common radicals as specified herein.
