Process for producing n-(dichlorophosphoryl) trichlorophosphazene from phosphorus pentachloride and ammonium chloride

Colorless, or but very faintly tinted N-(dichlorophosphoryl)trichlorophosphazene [P2NOCl5] is prepared by reacting phosphorus pentachloride with ammonium chloride in the presence of POCl3, and then treating the resulting medium of reaction, containing P3NCl12, with SO2, and wherein the temperature of the medium of reaction is maintained at a value of at most about 30 DEG C.
