The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a disposable protective garment (7), such as a surgical gown, for use in hygienic conditions, and a disposable protective garment manufactured by said method and made of a non-woven fabric or the like. According to the invention, the protective garment (7) is manufactured by cutting it from a single section of material to form a blank (1) substantially comprising sleeves (3), and an upper portion (1b), covering an upper part of the body, and a lower portion (1c), covering a lower part of the body, and a narrowing (1a) between them. Thereafter glue or a sealing agent (4) is applied on the seams of the sleeves and the upper portion (1b) of the blank, the blank (1) is folded in half at the upper portion in such a manner that the front of the garment remains substantially seamless, and finally the sleeves (3) and the back portions (1b, 1c) of the protective garment are glued or heat sealed together.
