The synchronisation system includes a bus system (BL) which supports a number of automation modules (A1,A2,A3,B1,B2,B3,H). Some of the modules (A1-A3) are multiple processor modules that access a common memory. The other modules (B1,B2) are also multiple processors, with parallel and hierarchical structures. A further unit (H) is synchronised to the central unit (Z). Drive units (D1,E1,C1,F1,D3,E3,E4) connect with the modules. Each of the modules has a local time generator that is to be synchronised with the central unit clock. The local time clock is synchronised using timing information generated by the main clock when the difference varies by a set amount. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides accurate synchronisation of local clock generators with central unit.
