The roller comprises an elastic cover (23) which is loosely fitted over a central body (3) having circumferential grooves (9) in a screw-like pattern into which expandable tubing is located. On end of the tubing is connected to a pressure source (21), the other is closed by a stopper device. The cover is prevented from moving axially by a flange (7)which form s a unit with the axial pins (5) of the body. The flange also has an opening for the feeding pipes conducting the pressure medium to the tubing. USE/ADVANTAGE - For printing processes. Accurate stepped pressure regulation is achieved with uniform pressure distribution over the length of the roller. Continuous tight fit contact between the tubing and cover can be ensured.
