A shaped piece (1) has two outer layers (2,3) of natural fibres which are oriented in one or more predetermined directions and a centre layer (4) consisting at least partially of a foamed synthetic resin. Pref., the centre layer can be foamed epoxy resin, or a non-woven of natural or synthetic fibres saturated with foamed synthetic resin. The centre layer can have a filler of natural material, esp. walnut or hazelnut shells or a synthetic filler, esp. recycled granular waste. The outer layers can be fibre mats, woven fabrics or laid down rovings. During manufacture the outer layers of oriented natural fibres are separated in the mould by the centre material and the closed mould is then heated to the reaction temperature. USE/ADVANTAGE - For shaped components as in automobiles, buildings, furniture and sports equipment. Gives high strength components with environmentally friendly constituents which can be readily recycled.
