During flame cutting with liquid oxygen, the jet emerging from the torch must have been cooled down to a temperature below the boiling temperature of oxygen corresponding to a given environmental pressure. The low temp. of the cutting oxygen is achieved by means of heat exchange with undercooled liquid oxygen. Pref. undercooled liquid oxygen is obtd. by pressure redn. in an associated vessel to values below the environmental pressure, preferably to 0.1 to 0.7 bar absolute. Alternatively, the low temperature of undercooled oxygen is produced by means of a refrigeration circuit. USE/ADVANTAGE - In flame cutting installations. The method is economically more effective in comparison with known procedures.
