The LED or other optical element (5) is fitted into a ring (20) bonded to the plane face (21) of an assembly flange (7) which has a slotted sleeve (8) projecting from its opposite side (16). The sleeve is radially deformable to receive the pin (1) enclosing the extremity of a coaxial light-guide (4) into its open end (10). The slots (12) extend parallel to the axis (22) of the coupler which is aligned with the centre of the bore through the flange into the space (14) contg. the optical element. ADVANTAGE - Extremely simple structure guarantees reliable and reproducible centring of pin w.r.t. optical element.
