A fishing weight comprises a shot produced from a suitably dense material which has formed in one face a cut (2) which extends to a depth greater than one half of the shot diameter and which defines gripper portions movable towards and away from each other to enable the shot to engage and be disengaged from a fishing line. A second shallower cut (4) is formed in the face of the weight opposite to said one face. The arrangement is such that the shot material disposed between the innermost extents of the two cuts defines a fulcrum about which the gripper members can turn to assist engagement of the shot onto a fishing line and disengagement therefrom.
