The straps of the harness are lockably secured in a casing (8) which includes a spring-biassed jack (16) and a bolt (7). A closed fluid circuit is connected to an actuator (12) in the casing, which controls a locking mechanism (19,20), in response to fluid pressure generated in a conduit (14) by the weight of a user on an articulated portion (10) of the seat frame. Situated between the seat frame and the articulated portion is a release control mechanism (27,28,30) which moves the articulated portion counter to the weight of the user. A sealed compressible chamber (13a) secured between the articulated and fixed frame portions defines the fluid pressure generation mechanism. ADVANTAGE - Rapid, secure locking mechanism, resistant to release attempts by child wearer by tampering with fastener.
