The fire fighting installation has rain or run-off water stored in a large reservoir (1). A principal water pipe (2) is supplied from the reservoir and several secondary pipes (4) branch off the principal pipe. The resulting network of pipes provides a network of outlets supplying water cannons (5) that are mounted above the soil. The pipes are buried beneath the ground. The water cannon connections have a stop valve in a chamber set in the ground beside the pipe.
