The present invention relates to a camera (10) and an objective (13) for taking pictures in axial stereovision. According to the invention, an optical unit (11) is placed in the path of an incident light beam (A) coming from an object scene S. The unit (11) then creates, for this beam, two optical paths (C1, C2) of different lengths but having, on entering and on exiting the optical unit, coincident optical axes. The beam (B) exiting the optical unit is then focused and received on a picture-taking means (14) and a determination means (16) established, for each point of the object scene (S), the distance (L) with respect to the camera. A three-dimensional image of the object scene is thus determined.
