PURPOSE: To prevent the corrosion and crack growth of metals by applying Ce2(MoO4)3 in the amt. effective for corrosion prevention on the metallic surface to be exposed to a sea water environment. ;CONSTITUTION: The Ce2(MoO4)3 is applied in the amt. effective for corrosion prevention on the metallic surface of Al, etc., to be exposed to the seawater environment. At the time of this application, about 0.1 top 10wt.%, more preferably 1 to 5% Ce2(MoO4)3 is used by mixing the same with the curable elastomer. The use of the Ce2(MoO4)3 by mixing the same with ZnCl2 is possible as well. As a result, the corrosion and crack growth of the metal are prevented. An equally good alternative is to compound the highly elastic and curable elastomer-like polymer with the Ce2(MoO4)3 and ZnCl2 of the amt. effective for prevention to prepare a coating or sealing compsn. for preventing the corrosion and crack growth and to use the compsn. by applying the same on the metallic surface. A polysulfide polymer, polyurethane polymer, etc., are used for the elastomer-like polymer described above.
