PURPOSE:To prevent the leakage of ink by ink holding force by making the capillary force of an ink supply member larger than that of an ink absorbing member and setting the pressure loss of the ink supply member in the supply of ink to a specific value or less. CONSTITUTION:When an ink jet head 2 and an ink cartridge 3 are separated, the holding force of the ink in an ink cartridge 3 is born by an ink guide member 47 being an ink supply member or a sponge part 37 being an ink absorbing member. Therefore, the capillary force of the sponge part 37 is set to 40mmAq or more and, since ink must be guided to the ink guide member 47 from the sponge part 37, the capillary force required in the ink guide member 47 is set to 85-400mmAq. When the ink jet head 2 and the ink caridge 3 are bonded, the pressure loss corresponding to the max. flow rate in a case having 64 or more emitting orifices in the ink guide member 47 is set to 20mmAq or less on the basis of ink supply properties.
