PURPOSE: To reutilize a diamond sintered compact by synthesizing diamond on a substrate obtd. by forming a metallic intermediate layer on the diamond sintered compact subjected to sintering aid removing treatment, removing the intermediate layer and separating the diamond from the substrate. ;CONSTITUTION: Diamond particles having 1-500μm average particle diameter are mixed with ≤0.2wt.% sintering aid and sintered. The resultant diamond sintered compact is subjected to sintering aid removing treatment by immersion in a soln. which dissolves the sintering aid. An intermediate layer of a metal selected from among groups IVa-VIIa, VIIIa, Ib, IIIb and IVb elements of the Periodic Table is formed in 0.5-30μm thickness on the treated diamond sintered compact to obtain a substrate. Diamond is synthesized on the substrate in a vapor phase, the intermediate layer is dissolved and removed by immersion in fluoronitric acid and the synthesized diamond is separated from the diamond sintered compact.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
