PRODUCTION OF COATED PAPER AND COATED PAPER PRODUCED BY THE PRODUCTION PROCESS

PURPOSE: To provide a process for the production of a coated paper having excellent printing ink setting property and extremely high gloss by applying a specific coating agent and pressing with a hot roll. ;CONSTITUTION: The coating agent to be used in this coated paper production process is prepared by mixing and stirring (A) an inorganic extender pigment having an average particle diameter of 0.04-1.0μm, preferably 0.04-0.50μm and containing calcium carbonate and other inorganic extender pigment at a weight ratio of 30/70 to 100/0 and (B) an aqueous binder resin having an acid value of 50-250, a glass transition temperature of -50 to +120°C, preferably -40 to +40°C and selected from acrylic resin, styrene-acrylic resin, styrene-maleic acid resin and styrene-acrylic-maleic acid resin at a weight ratio (A/B) of 70/30 to 95/5 and dispersing the mixture with a beads mill or a ball mill until the inorganic extender pigment is temporarily dispersed in fine particulate state. The coating agent is applied to a base paper at a rate of 10-40g/m² (in terms of bone-dry weight) and pressed with a hot roll heated at 90-160°C to obtain a coated paper.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
