PURPOSE: To optimally suppress extremely large interference in the static image area of a film without any surplus costs or design constitution by classifying image contents, and executing error masking only in a faulty static image area by a timely median filtering action. ;CONSTITUTION: A digital video signal transmitted by film scanning is inputted through a terminal 1 to two serial image memories 2 and 3. As a result, three continuous images N-1, N, and N+1 can be simultaneously obtained. Video signals (x), (y), and (z) of those three images are inputted to input sides X, Y, and Z of an arithmetic logical unit 4 for forming a control signal K, and also inputted through delay blocks 6-8 to input sides X, Y, and Z of a median filter 5. The classification of each area of a moving image, static image, faulty image, and non-faulty image of three simultaneously fetched image contents is operated in the arithmetic unit 4, and the switching signal K is operated only to the faulty image and static image area. Only an input signal in the faulty static image of the image N is transmitted to an output side 11 after median filtering by a switch 9.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
