PURPOSE: To obtain a single crystal capable of easily regulating its refractive index, having a high nonlinear optical constant, less liable to damage by laser beams, usable at a room temp., having the same crystal structure as KNbO3, LiNbO3, a solid soln. of them, etc., and capable of forming a waveguide from the KNbO3, etc., as a substrate and to obtain a nonlinear optical material using a thin film of the single crystal. ;CONSTITUTION: This single crystal is represented by the general formula Ag1-aXaNb1-bYbO3 (where X is at least one kind of element selected from among potassium, sodium and lithium, Y is at last one of tantalum and antimony, 0≤a1 and 0≤b≤1).
