Method for inspecting the quality of scrap iron to be recycled in a steelworks

The sample is divided into small fragments and the sample divided in thisway is subjected to a high-speed melting operation. Firstly, the gasesreleased by the sample during said high-speed melting operation are capturedand analysed and, secondly, a test specimen is cast from the molten sampleand the composition of said test specimen is determined. In particular, thenature and content of the synthetic substances and heavy metals present inthe gases captured are determined. For this purpose, it is possible toanalyse the gases by gas chromatography; it is also possible to condense theheavy metals on a cold surface and analyse said metals by X-ray fluorescence.It is also possible to cast the molten sample into a small test specimen andanalyse said test specimen by spectrometry.
