A measurement value is determined corresp. to the length of a part of the web (4) unrolled from the roller (3) when it rotates through a specific number of degrees, pref. 360 deg., and the determined measurement value is used to determine how much of the web (4) rolled onto the roller (3) is issued for a specific process, e.g. printing. A signal representing the received measurement value corresp. to the length of the part of the web (4) and a signal corresp. to the number of degrees which the roller (3) rotates when the web part is unrolled are determined. These signals are processed to obtain information as to how much of the web rolled onto the roller is issued for processing in the printing press (1). A signal representing the layer thickness of the web on the roller and a signal representing the width of the web on the roller are fed for processing together with the original signals to obtain the information.
