A device for the positive propulsion of a vehicle, specially for the improvement of rail tracks, of the type in which the movement is obtained by applying a force directly between the vehicle chassis and a fixed element, such as the rails, without intervention of the wheels, which comprises a main structure with means for displacing it between a raised neutralised position and a lowered operative position, a main track, borne by the main structure with means for driving it, and composed of articulated elements, each of which comprises a pair of rocker levers which, with their bottom parts, form two jaws suitable for engagement with a fixed element such as a rail, gripping it laterally, an auxiliary structure displaceable vertically with respect to the main structure with means for applying a vertical stress to it, and an auxiliary track borne by the auxiliary structure, composed of articulated wedge elements, arranged so that they can be wedged between the ends of the rocker levers of the main track elements, to cause locking of the jaws and therefore the integralisation of the main track with respect to the fixed element.
