Method and apparatus for production of continuous casting billets and blooms for high and very high-grade steels

A method for producing billets and blooms directly by continuous casting, so that these long products are already able to go to the finishing roll train for production of steels of high and very high grade, comprises a phase of molten-core deformation of the casting section with reduction of the section itself for the same perimeter. This occurs in the zone lying between the point S, the last point of superheated liquid on the casting axis, and the point of complete solidification of the casting itself or the end of the metallurgical length. Preferably, said deformation operation is performed between 10 percent and 80 percent concentration of solid grains in the fluid mass. The apparatus for carrying out this method essentially comprises means for bringing up at least one of the sectors comprising the roll train in the continuous casting layout to the opposite one, in at least one plane passing along the casting axis, at the aforesaid deformation zone.
