SHORT Dispersive optical delay line and its use for compression / expansion of laser pulses. The invention relates to a dispersive optical delay line for light waves of frequency modulated pulses, in particular laser waves. The delay line according to the invention comprises first R1 and second R2 parallel optical networks, separated by a resistance and localized with none to the surface of a material of index N transparent to light waves. An incident wave .SIGMA. is diffracted at an angle .theta. ' greater than the angle of refraction limit transmission through the networks R1 and R2, the angle of emergence of the second network R2 being also equal à.theta. '. The values of parameters N, .theta. ', A and d are chosen so that .DELTA.tR delay time variation of the pulse through the line corresponds to a modulation band .DELTA.f of the pulse in a quasi-linear field. Application to the compression / expansion for obtension high power laser pulses or of very short duration. Figure 1.
