The invention relates to a method of prevention of miscarriage in a woman by administering thereto a therapeutically effective dose of an active selected from the group consisting of PP14, PP14 of derivatives, muteins of PP14, of fragments PP14 and PP14 subsets, so as to prevent miscarriage. The invention also provides a method of screening a female individual in order to investigate the possibility of a future miscarriage by measuring the level of PP14 in women and compared the level measured at PP14 present in the normally fertile women . The invention further relates to a method of improving the efficiency of assisted reproductive technologies such as artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization or transfer of gametes in the fallopian tubes by adding an effective dose of PP14 in a sample comprising an embryo, a fertilized or unfertilized egg, a mixture of eggs and sperm or sperm alone before introduction of the sample in the patient simultaneously with or following the introduction.
