A soft-magnetic Fe-containing material with high saturation magnetisation and ultrafine grain structure can be produced by the process. According to the invention, an initial powder of the material, optionally containing 0.1 to 10 atomic % of an additional component which is insoluble in it, is ground to produce powder particles having a mean grain size of between 5 and 50 nm and a heat treatment at below 600 DEG C, preferably below 400 DEG C, is carried out in the course of not more than one hour.
