The extractor has a U-shaped grip (1) which is threaded by two adjusting screws (5) and with the free ends of the screws braced against the insides of thrust rings (6). Each pressure ring has a shaped recess to locate the bearing pivot (17) and a lip (3) which grips into a slot around the neck of the bearing. The screw fasteners are tightened to separate the ball joint (17) from its mounting. The ball joint mounting can be a simple conical joint (16) which is released through axial pressure on the ball joint w.r.t. the ball joint mounting. The U-shaped grip has thrust ring and a correspondingly shaped housing for the thrust ring. After fitting the extractor the thrust ring and housing are rotated at 180 deg. to each other to lock onto the joint mounting.
