PURPOSE: To provide an optical two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation device and an optical two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation method performing two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation at a high speed with high precision. ;CONSTITUTION: The optical two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation device is constituted of an image display means 2 displaying an image, a light radiation means 1 radiating light toward the image displayed on the image display means 2, a photoelectric transducing means 3 photoelectrically transducing the light transmitted through the image display means 2, and an amplifier means 4 amplifying the electric signal transduced by the photoelectric transducing means 3, and the two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation is executed by the light. The device is, further, provided with a light intensity modulation means 7 modulating the light intensity of the light radiated by the light radiation means 1 in row unit or in column unit and an amplification factor modulation means 8 modulating the amplification factor of the electric signal amplified by the amplifier means 4 in column unit when light intensity is modulated in row unit by the light intensity modulation means 7 and modulating the amplification factor in row unit when light intensity is modulated in column unit by the light intensity modulation means 7.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
