PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire-protective substance which is useful for fire protection of steel objects, wood, wood materials, cables and the like and, by virtue of freedom from a halogen, is nontoxic and noncorrosive by comprising a specified compsn. ;SOLUTION: This fire-protective substance comprises: (A) an undercoating component comprising a dehydrating agent, a binder, ceramic wool, refractory clay, and a glaze; (B) an intermediate component comprising a dehydrating agent, a binder, ceramic wool, refractory clay, a glaze, an insulating material, and additional clay; and (C) a swelling component comprising a dehydrating agent, a binder, a foaming agent, ceramic wool, refractory clay, expanded graphite, and an insulating layer-forming agent. Pref., the dehydrating agent for the components A to C is a mixture of a salt of phosphoric acid with nitrogen, or ammonium polyphosphate, the ceramic wool for the components A to C is a ground ceramic fiber, the refractory clay for the components A to C is ground chamotte, the glaze for the components A and B is slip, the insulating material for the component B is finely divided vermiculite, and the additional clay for the component B is kaolin.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
