NEW FLAVONOID GLYCOSIDE AND THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR OSTEOPOROSIS AND EDIBLE COMPOSITION CONTAINING FLAVONOID GLYCOSIDE

PURPOSE: To obtain a new flavonoid glycoside useful as an ingredient of a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis and an edible composition. ;CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula (R₁ and R₂ are each H, OH or OCH₃; R₃ is H, COCH₃, COCH₂COOH or COCH₂CH₂COOH), e.g. 6'-O- succinylisoflavone. The flavonoid glycoside of the formula is contained in a plant of the family Leguminosae and its fermented material and obtained by extracting raw material soybeans or fermented soybeans fermented with Bacillus natto with an alcohol and purifying the resultant extract by a column chromatography. The flavonoid glycoside is orally administered to suppress the reduction in bone mass and prevent and treat osteoporosis.
