PURPOSE:To prevent the seizure flaws on the surfaces of core materials and to improve yield by evacuating the inside of a rolling stock and in turn substituting the air with an inert gas in pack rolling to produce light-gaged nonferrous metals such as pure Ti and Ti and high alloy steels. CONSTITUTION:A release agent is coated on the surfaces of=1 sheets of/ for example, the respective Ti sheets as a core material 1 to prevent sticking of the Ti to each other and the Ti to steel sheets used as a cover material 2 by rolling. For the above-mentioned purpose, the pack rolling stock is assembled and thereafter, the inside thereof is evacuated to a vacuum through discharge holes 6, then the gas inert to Ti is fed therein to substitute the air with said gas. The holes 6 are closed and the stock is subjected to hot rolling. The oxidation on the Ti surface of the core materials 1, absorption of hydrogen therein and welding thereof are thereby prevented and the core materials having the beautiful surfaces are obtd.
