PREPARATION OF PHENOL/RESORCIN RESIN FOR COMPONENT OF PRIMER FOR BONDING, PRIMER FOR BONDING AND METHOD FOR BONDING BETWEEN RUBBER AND REINFORCEMENT

PURPOSE: To provide a process for preparing a phenol/resorcin resin suitable for use as a primer for bonding between a rubber and a reinforcement. ;CONSTITUTION: A p-alkyl phenol having a 6-16 alkyl group and an aldehyde are heated in an arom. hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide in an amount of 0.15 to 0.6 times by mole that of the p-alkylphenol to react substantially the whole quantity of the p-alkylphenol, thereby giving a reaction mixture, having a hydroxyl content of not less than 16.0wt.%, contg. a methylolation product of the p-alkylphenol. The reaction mixture is neutralized, separated, and washed with water. An arom. hydrocarbon solvent, an acid catalyst, and resorcin are added thereto, and the mixture is heated to allow a reaction to proceed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
