The invention relates to using a sorbent on zeolite basemodified in a cation form with anion groups and/or complex-forminggroups applied which fills up equipment assembled on the inletside of the water supply mains and at the outlet to the hot waternetwork for residential needs. The sorbent is natural or syntheticzeolite mineral having suitable grain size distribution,containing sodium, ammonium or hydrogen cations OH-, HPO42-appliedanion complex-forming groups enabling the fixation of calcium, andmagnesium ion (ethylene-diamine-tetraacetic acid, oxalic acid,other organic acids or their salts). If removal of iron andmanganese ions is required from the water, iron oxide andmanganoxide compounds are applied on the zeolite sorbent. Thesorbent based on zeolite has very well developed surface. Itsmodification does not change its sorption, ion-exchange, catalyticand surface properties proper to the zeolite matrix and enablesthe desired reaction with other components and the environment Thepassing of water with hardness 5 HO (2 meq/l) through theequipment results in the occurance of ion-exchange reactionsreducing the calcium and magnesium ions content in it and tochanges of the hydrogen-carbonate ion concentration resulting inthe fixation of the calcium carbonate on the grains of the sorbentat the expense of crystallization in situ. In this way treated hotwater for residential needs is secured in the water supplynetwork.
