The invention relates to reading and display device 1 comprising an optical reading unit 2 by means of which graphic characters are optically read; and a processing unit 3, which is connected to the optical reading unit 2 and which processes character data, and a display unit 4 for displaying data. According to the invention the reading and display device 1 is a connecting unit 27a for linking the device to an external device with a duplex data transmission channel. The invention also relates to a reading and interpreting device, a reading and display unit, and an interpreting unit arranged separately for wireless communications between them.
